Who We Are

The Evolution of Benue Bureau for Arts, Culture and Tourism

Benue State’s journey to a unified cultural agency reflects decades of administrative refinement. Before 2023, cultural governance suffered under fragmented structures as Departments of Culture and Tourism operated as minor units under the Ministry of Information, with their work treated as an afterthought to state communications.

A brief experiment (2003) elevated the Departments to full ministerial status, granting temporary autonomy before demotion in 2007. Meanwhile, the Benue State Council for Arts and Culture worked parallel to these departments, duplicating festivals and heritage projects while reporting through separate channels.

MESSAGE FROM THE

Executive Governor of Benue State

It gives me great pleasure to extend my warmest greetings to all participants, artists, and visitors joining us in celebrating the Benue Arts & Culture Fusion – Where Heritage Inspires the Future.

Benue State, fondly known as the Food Basket of the Nation, is equally a cradle of rich cultural diversity and creative excellence. Our traditions, music, crafts, and festivals reflect the vibrant spirit of our people — a spirit that continues to inspire innovation, unity, and pride in our shared identity.

Through this initiative, the Benue State Bureau for Arts, Culture and Tourism showcases not only our heritage but also the limitless potential of our creative industries to drive social cohesion, economic growth, and tourism development.

I encourage everyone to immerse themselves in the sights, sounds, and stories of Benue — to experience a land where culture lives, creativity thrives, and the future is built upon the enduring strength of our heritage.

Together, let us continue to promote, preserve, and project the beauty of Benue to Nigeria, Africa, and the world.
